Off topic, sort of

I know this is titled Mental health and Movies but I couldnt get past the fact that any lists you do have reprecussions, people judge the person by his/her choices and build up a picture of what they must be like, so I thought I would counter this with adding some more Info about my likes and dislikes, from music to TV and anything I can think of inbetween.

Musical tastes: This is far from cut and dried, everytime I do a list of who I’m into it leads to discussion about who else I like. I like to think that this is nothing to do with BPD, but it may be, firstly I have always been into the Boss, Bruce Springsteen and I do lean heavily on America for my listening pleasure, I love Country Music, Garth Brooks, Brad Paisley, Rodney Adkins, George Strait and many others. I like my rock heavy and loud Guns N Roses, Aerosmith, Red Hot Chilli Peppers, Linkin Park, Limp Bizkit, Bon Jovi with my nineties grunge being very important to me Nirvana, Pearl Jam, Alice in chains and Stone Temple Pilots. Also from across the pond I like Eminem and Jack Johnson.

From closer to home I listen to the Arctic Monkeys, Kaiser Chiefs, Reverend and the Makers, Blur, Oasis, Pulp, The Streets, Madness, Keane, The Specials, The Beat, U2, Simple Minds again this is not exhaustive, I’m sure I’ll update this as I go along.

My dislikes are braod and far reaching, Glee is the most current phenomena to displease me, but most rap music annoys me, with minor exceptions, reggae and R&B in most forms, the torch singers and divas that fill up most womens top ten lists. I dont get the Lady Ga Ga thing at all and Justin Beiber heads a long list of boy bands and solo artists aimed at the tween market that get me on a righteous anger, basically anything put out by the Disney/Nickelodeon organisations.

Television : I start with My all time favourite Tv show The Sopranos, other notable HBO shows follow, Boardwalk Empire, Entourage, Band of Brothers and The Pacific. I enjoy shows like the Apprentice but Reality Tv is usually a turn off, I admit to watching more of this crap than I should but at least I’m not judging from afar. The American shows Over There, Spartacus, Firefly, Arrested Development, Rome, Two and a Half men. I dont really rate much home grown Tv, I love anything David Attenborough does, Ricky Gervais stuff is normally my cup of tea and some of the channel four comedy shows are good Inbetweeners and friday night dinner being the most obvious ones. I hate all the soaps and anything like casualty, holby or anything like that, friends was funny the first few thousand times but is now dead to me, sex and the city or desperate housewives would cause me to have an aneurism, so chick Tv in general is a massive No.

Sport : I love football, especially Chelsea Fc but I watch most games that are on, cant say I enjoy them all but I will watch, I like American Football and Basketball, a bit of boxing or UFC is always good and any of the extreme sports will get my attention. I cant abide cricket, horse racing, darts , snooker or any of the motor sports.

Hobbies : I’m not a great one for doing stuff, but i do have a hobby of sorts, I enjoy Airsoft which is a form of war games using realistic looking BB guns, we play in woodland and have to act as a team to beat the opponents in some scenario or other. I read copious amounts on almost any topic, I like factual stuff, historic and classical as well as fantasy and sci fi as well, I go to the cinema two to three times a week and watch Films on Tv if there are any good ones on. I dont know if Hobby is the right place to put this but I also Volunteer with a charity called Walk Tall, which is for young people to help build self esteem and I am curreently waiting for some training to be a Samaritan.

In general I am quite conservative and would see my self in the centre right politically, on my bad days I am very fervently in the far right but thats not me thats my BPD. From a religous point of view I would say I was a humanist, I have read the “Good” books, the Torah,The Bible and the Quoran, all of which were interesting but ultimately did not inspire any devotion in me, I’ve research the eastern philosophies and religions and found nothing there for me, so here I sit, wanting to have something greater than humanity to look to but never having found this thing that somehow could answer my questions.

On the subject of my mental health I am firmly of the opinion that it is in  my hands to improve my life, I couldnt have done this before my year of therapy  but the result of that year has been the ability to put my past in context and in doing so open up the future, it is a very bad feeling having life happen to you, and usually its only the very bad stuff that comes your way, whether its a childhood trauma or abusive relationship etc, these thing seems to gravitate to a certain type of person, or maybe cause the person to become one, the roll of crap that thens fall on you is relentless and seemingly indefatigable, but with some help you can pull yourself out of this mind set, see things for what they are and hopefully push forward without the weight of negative expectation on your back.

Favourites Redux

Ever since I posted my favourites I have been stewing over the also rans and talking myself into changing one for another then realising why I chose this one over that, its an intermnable bind which is getting thoroughly on my nerves. So I have decided to do my list of others, not necessarily second and third choices just films that deserve an honourable mention, I wont indulge in descriptions or reasons, they should kind of talk for themelves, I hope.

I also realised I had left out some major genres, like horror and war films which was remiss of me, I dont have a great love of horror but I do have favourites and war films are a staple of mine so I’ll have a think and edit the post when my head gets back in the game. Just realised i totally ignored the Spy/black ops films, like Bourne and Bond, its terrible once you get into thinking about this as you realise all the films you forgot to mention.
